Windows file tracking?

I know this is the wrong forum for this type of question - but I have been searching for this for ages and found no answer as yet. Any help would be appriciated.

My company runs a netwok file server (Windows 2000 Server). I have recently found users to be lax and move/delete files without a thought - thinking that they can recover it from the backups whenever they want. My problem is that I would like to know who is moving/deleting these files.

Is there anywhere windows logs who moved/deleted files - or is there any program that will help me do this?

Thany you

The term you're looking for is Auditing. It's not a .NET issue, just Google Windows File Auditing and you'll find plenty of links.

Hello,

There is a possible solution: If you can develop with VS 2005 - there is in Windows.Forms a new component called FileSystemWatcher that throws messages when files/folders are changed - you can use it if you want.

Brilliant - thank you

Only thing is we have to initiate group policies now :-s
